Annual Small Business Community Celebration Luncheon to take place May 4, 2018 featuring Linda Clark, Simply Fit Board® and “Shark Tank” sensation and honoring SBDC Small Business Award Recipients

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has declared a National Small Business Week to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs and small business owners across the nation. Annually, National Small Business Week is celebrated the first week in May; this year the dates are April 29 – May 5, 2018.

Locally, the Southern Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has been serving as a Small Business Week Champion for the Southern Colorado region and hosts events in Pueblo and Canon City. Businesses have the opportunity to attend a variety of innovative and relevant training seminars, presented by local business professionals and SBDC certified business consultants on topics such as Cybersecurity: Attack Techniques and Prevention Methods, Introduction to Social Impact and Getting Started in Business Essentials. Seminars are free and open to the public courtesy of sponsors Southern Colorado Small Business Development Center, 98-1, KKFM and partner Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado. Business Meetup networking receptions will also take place during Small Business Week in Pueblo and Canon City. A full list of Southern Colorado Small Business Week events can be found online at www.southerncoloradosbdc.org.

One of the week’s signature events is the annual Small Business Week Community Celebration Luncheon scheduled for Friday, May 4, 2018 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Pueblo Community College Fortino Ballroom. Tickets are $20 per person or $150 for a corporate table of 8; deadline to register is Monday, April 30th. The luncheon recognizes the Southern Colorado small business of the year and small business champion awardees while promoting National Small Business Week locally. You won’t want to miss hearing from special guest presenter Linda Clark, inventor of the Simply Fit Board® and Shark Tank sensation. Linda will share her story and what she learned from her experience launching the business and successfully navigating the Shark Tank experience to become one of Colorado’s latest success stories!

The southeast Colorado mother-daughter team of Linda Clark and Gloria Hoffman developed the Simply Fit Board® Exercise Board that first became famous when the duo inventors appeared on the ABC television show “Shark Tank” in November 2015. The product was a hit on the show, with multiple investors expressing interest including Lori Greiner who Clark and Hoffman ultimately partnered with and received an offer of $125,000 for a 20 percent stake in their organization. The decision they made that day paid off; after seven months of Greiner's investment, sales went from $575,000 to $9 million. The Simply Fit Board has become a huge craze in the American workout scene and continues to grow since it returned to the ABC's "Shark Tank" screen in December 2016, where the show acknowledges the product's great success since it initially debuted on the program.

When Simply Fit Board sales exploded after airing on Shark Tank in November 2015, Greiner suggested doing an infomercial for the product. Teaming up with a successful infomercial giant, the infomercial was launched in later June 2016. This strategy has driven the Simply Fit Board’s success to soaring heights. It can be found in major retailers, including Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens, Target and a host of other retail stores across the country. The Simply Fit Board was also a customer favorite on QVC for over a year. Linda said, “The reason the Simply Fit Board was created, was to make exercising simple and fun, and what a wonderful experience to be able to share with my daughter. It’s opened doors that we had only dreamed of. Hard work, a spirit of excellence, and a lot of faith can achieve amazing results”.

Linda Clark was in Pueblo soon after their initial debut on “Shark Tank” as a presenter at the 2016 Pueblo Entrepreneurship Competition where she shared her experience personally and professionally thus far. Linda will be back in Pueblo in celebration of National Small Business Week to serve as Guest Speaker for the 2018 Small Business Week Community Celebration Luncheon scheduled for Friday, May 4th.

The luncheon event will also feature messages by Pueblo Community College President Dr. Patty Erjavec, SBA Colorado District Director Frances Padilla, CO Deputy Director/CO SBDC Network Director Kelly Manning, Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado CEO/Executive Director Jonathan Leibert, Southern Colorado SBDC Executive Director Caroline Trani and Southern Colorado SBDC’s 2018 Business Award recipients:
